TITLE | Dewi Saraswati (II)
The specific deity of all Bali’s many artisans and students. Her consort is Brahma, the male creator-aspect. Saraswati’s four hands each bear a gift to her devotees: Wisdom, symbolized by a traditional “lontar” (palm) book. Devotion, symbolized by a flower turned to the sun. Creativity, symbolized by a traditional musical instrument. Meditation, symbolized by a mala, or rosary (prayer bead). Saraswati stands upon a lotus, showing the “natural openness” needed for true creativity and learning. Her “spiritual vehicle” a large white swan, expressing her divine “purity & freedom”.
